Desire Holdings Limited is seeking two motivated and reliable Café Assistants to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. We are looking for customer-focused individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced café environment.

Our café operates 7 days a week from 6:45 am to 3:30 pm. Successful applicants must be available to work rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

As an Experienced Café Assistant, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, preparing and serving high-quality food and beverages, and supporting the wider café team during busy service periods. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and process customer transactions.
  • Prepare and serve food and beverages.
  • Prepare coffee and other café drinks (barista experience is an advantage).
  • Deliver food and beverages to customers.
  • Clear and clean tables promptly.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the café.
  • Assist with café opening and closing procedures.
  • Monitor and replenish stock levels.
  • Work effectively with the kitchen team to ensure efficient service.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required.

Skills and Experience

Successful applicants must:

  • Have at least 6 months of relevant experience in a café, restaurant, or other hospitality environment.
  • Have a positive and professional attitude.
  • Be reliable, punctual, and well presented.
  • Have excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Be able to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Barista experience is an advantage but is not essential.
  • An understanding of basic food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards
  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts, including  weekends.

Requirements

  • Must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand or be eligible to obtain an appropriate work visa.
  • Must be physically capable of carrying out the duties of the role.
  • Reliable transport is preferred due to rostered shifts.
  • A pre-employment drug test may be required.

What We Offer

  • Two permanent, full-time positions.
  • A guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Competitive pay rate, $26.00 to $28.00 per hour, depending on experience.
