Café Manager:

Location: Kapiti, Wellington

Employment type: Full time (guaranteed 35 hours / per week)

Our pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour

Blackhood Bakes is a growing artisan bakery and café on the Kāpiti Coast, known for exceptional coffee, handcrafted baking and genuine hospitality.

We require 1 Café Manager who will leads the day-to-day operation of the Te Horo café in a hands-on role, working alongside staff and ensuring high standards of service, presentation, cleanliness and efficiency.

We are looking for a full-time permanent Restaurant Manager to lead all aspects of our business. You will deliver a high-quality menu and motivate our staff to provide excellent customer service.

Skills and experience needed:

·      A relevant Diploma level 4or an equivalent qualification, OR; any major bachelor degree OR

·      At least 2 years of working experience in a similar role.

Duties and responsibilities:

·      Oversees the daily running of the café, maintaining a strong floor presence, supervising staff, and coordinating workflows to ensure safe and efficient operations.

·      Delivers exceptional customer service, builds local community relationships, and resolves concerns professionally to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

·      Oversees food and beverage presentation, and collaborates with kitchen and floor staff to ensure smooth service and support menu launches.

·      Recruits, trains, and mentors staff while managing rosters, shift changes, weekend rotations, and coverage for absences.

·      Maintains strict compliance with food safety regulations by ensuring digital food control plans (like SafefoodPro), hygiene standards, and cleaning protocols are accurately managed.

·      Drives business growth by executing local marketing strategies, contributing to social media, and analysing sales trends to boost customer retention.

·      Manages financial performance through stock control, ordering, waste minimisation, and labour efficiency to meet profitability targets.

·      Maintains regular communication with upper management regarding daily performance, staffing, marketing, and operational compliance.
