SHANVI KIWI LIMITED T/A RIVERSIDE SIDE CAFÉ AWANUI is a welcoming and customer-focused café located in Awanui, Far North, New Zealand. We are currently seeking TWO motivated and experienced Baristas to join our friendly and professional team. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced café environment and take pride in delivering high-quality coffee and customer service.

Position Details

Position: Barista

Location: Awanui, Far North, New Zealand

Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time

Hours: Minimum 30 guaranteed hours per week

Pay Rate: $25.00 – $29.00 per hour (depending on skills and experience)

Work Schedule: Rostered shifts including early mornings, weekends, public holidays, and busy service periods. Applicants must be flexible and available to work across the roster and split shifts as required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Preparing and serving high-quality coffee, espresso-based beverages, teas, and other hot and cold drinks

Operating commercial coffee equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, and coffee brewing equipment

Adjusting grind size, dose, and extraction settings to maintain coffee quality and consistency

Preparing and presenting beverages according to café recipes and quality standards

Texturing milk and producing well-presented coffee beverages

Preparing and serving café food items such as sandwiches, pastries, and other menu items

Greeting customers warmly and providing excellent customer service

Taking customer orders, providing menu recommendations, and assisting with dietary requirements

Processing customer transactions accurately using the POS system

Maintaining clean, organised, and hygienic coffee preparation and customer service areas

Cleaning and maintaining espresso machines, grinders, milk frothers, countertops, and café equipment

Restocking coffee beans, milk, cups, syrups, food items, and other café supplies

Monitoring inventory levels and assisting with stock control

Completing opening and closing duties, including preparation, cleaning, and end-of-day procedures

Following food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety procedures

Supporting other café duties as reasonably required

Skills and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have:

Minimum 2 years of relevant commercial barista experience, however a minimum Diploma Degree qualification will substitute the requirement of the experience.

Proven experience operating commercial espresso machines and coffee grinders

Ability to independently prepare espresso beverages and maintain coffee consistency

Strong milk texturing and beverage presentation skills

Knowledge of coffee preparation techniques and café operations

Good customer service and communication skills

Ability to work efficiently during busy service periods

A positive attitude with strong attention to detail

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Reliable and professional approach to work

Flexibility to work rostered shifts, split shifts including weekends and public holidays

Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and workplace safety
