Hinds Wayside Inn is a busy country tavern just south of Ashburton offering a restaurant, bar, café, bottle store and accommodation services. We are a friendly, fast-paced venue that takes pride in great hospitality and looking after both our locals and passing travellers.

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Duty Manager to join our team. Reporting to the owners/management, the successful candidates will oversee daily operations across all areas of the business, ensuring smooth service delivery, an excellent customer experience, and full compliance with liquor licensing and health & safety requirements. 

Key responsibilities

     Maintain a professional working relationship between the kitchen and Front of House so the overall business operates smoothly.

     Organise functions for customers, communicating with all relevant parties to ensure customer and business requirements are met.

     Train, supervise, roster and motivate staff, leading by example on shift.

     Handle cash, EFTPOS and credit card transactions and complete till reconciliation.

     Handle customer complaints and resolve them professionally and courteously.

     Ensure host responsibility obligations under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 are understood and practised by all FOH staff.

     Provide exceptional service and ensure the team maintains the same standard.

     Check stock levels and assist with ordering supplies; monitor stock and rotate accordingly.

     Maintain high standards of quality control, hygiene and health & safety.

     Communicate menu, wine list and venue changes to guests.

     Work with management to assess and improve processes and policies, and uphold and enforce company policies.

     Address employee performance issues, check in with staff regularly, and address customer issues and complaints.

     Schedule regular maintenance and cleaning of facilities (e.g. toilets), ensure fireplaces are running and firewood is restocked.

     Oversee the security of the facility and keep all work areas clean and tidy.

     Set up workstations with ingredients and equipment, and prepare ingredients (chopping/peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.).

     Assist the Chef during service and follow their instructions, checking food while cooking.

Skills, experience & requirements

     Relevant experience of 2 years or a relevant qualification

     Sound knowledge of host responsibility and liquor licensing obligations preferrred

     Good food safety and hygiene knowledge.

     Strong communication, leadership and customer-service skills.

     Reliable, able to work a rotating roster including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
