Katsubi Restaurant is a Japanese restaurant that has been operating in Rotorua since 2004. We use fresh ingredients to prepare a range of Japanese dishes, including sushi, sashimi and rice bowls. We provide both dine-in and takeaway services and have built a loyal local customer base over many years. To support the ongoing and stable operation of our business, we are seeking reliable and responsible Cooks to join our team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Wash, cut, measure, portion and prepare ingredients required for cooking.
2. Prepare sushi, sashimi, rice bowls and other Japanese dishes in accordance with established recipes and company quality standards.
3. Work under the direction of the Chef and cooperate with other kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking duties.
4. Maintain consistent food presentation, portion size, quality and taste.
5. Check the freshness and quality of ingredients and store and manage them appropriately.
6. Comply with food safety and hygiene requirements and keep the kitchen, utensils and equipment clean and organised.
7. Assist with stock control and ingredient management and, when required, support the development of new menu items.
8. Assist with customer service duties when required to help maintain customer satisfaction.
9. Comply with company operating procedures and cooking standards and perform any other reasonable duties requested by the employer.
Pay Rate
NZ$26.00 to NZ$29.00 per hour
Employment Type and Guaranteed Hours
· Permanent, full-time position
· A minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week
Business Operating Hours
Monday to Saturday: 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM
The restaurant operates throughout most of the year and is closed only on 1 January and 25 December. The applicant must be available to work weekends and public holidays as required under the roster.
Required Skills and Experience
· At least 6 months of relevant work experience.
· Experience in preparing Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi is an advantage.
· A good understanding of food safety and hygiene standards and the ability to follow these requirements consistently.
· The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment and cooperate with other team members.
· Sufficient physical fitness to stand for extended periods and carry out normal kitchen duties.
· A reliable and responsible attitude with effective communication skills.
· The legal right to work in New Zealand.
