About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, and implementation of programmes of care. These programmes are developed in partnership with patients, their family, whānau, carers, and significant others, and are grounded in evidence-based practice. Care planning reflects each person’s lifestyle, race, gender, cultural background, and the physical, mental, and emotional factors that influence their health. The RN works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across both primary and secondary health settings, actively supporting the delivery of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Lakes vision and demonstrating its values in everyday practice.

As a District Nursing Registered Nurse, your role involves daily patient visits within the community. A typical day includes an early start, scheduled home visits, responding to messages, providing home-based treatments, and concluding with patient follow-ups and team communication. Each visit incorporates patient and whānau education, delivery of treatment, accurate documentation, responding to clinical needs as they arise, and collaborating with the wider healthcare team to ensure holistic, person-centred care.

About the Team/Service/Location

A typical district nursing team incorporates Registered Nurses, nursing assistants working in partnership with the client and their family. The team draws on both generalist and specialist skills to deliver holistic care within the home and community. Their practice is grounded in a restorative, socioecological approach that recognises the influence of social determinants of health. District nursing also acts as a bridge between hospital and community services, providing transitional care, supporting recovery, and enabling individuals and whānau to build confidence in self-care. Health New Zealand|Te Whatu Ora Lakes provides healthcare to a population of 110,000 people from its two modern and progressive general hospitals in Rotorua and Taupo, New Zealand. About You

As a District Nurse you must:

• Hold New Zealand Nursing Council registration (NCNZ).
• Hold a current Practicing Certificate
• Hold a current driver’s licence for both manual and automatic vehicles.
• Have evidence of practicing at Level 3 of an approved PDRP programme.
• Have at least 3-5 years post graduate nursing experience in an acute medical/surgical setting.
• Possess Advanced IV management (CVAD), Port-A-Cath, PICC, Midline experience
