About the Role

We have a permanent Health Care Assistant position available, working 20 hours per week in our Haemodialysis unit at Tauranga Hospital. This role requires the successful candidate to work morning and afternoon shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a growing renal service that is motivated and committed to making a difference through teamwork and cooperation.

The Renal Dialysis Unit aims to provide the best support and care for our patients requiring haemodialysis. Health Care Assistants are a vital part of our interdisciplinary team who work closely with our nursing staff to provide assistance to patients and whānau/family.

Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is spread across a vast geographical area and centred across two hospitals based in Tauranga and Whakatāne. We serve a population of approximately 259,000 for the major population centres of Tauranga, Katikati, Te Puke, Whakatāne, Kawerau and Ōpōtiki.

About You

As a Health Care Assistant, you will have a strong commitment to providing patient focused care as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Being a team player with strong time management skills, you will be adaptable and able to relate well to clients from various backgrounds and cultures.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience: Ideally, you have a Level 3 or 4 NZQA Health and Wellbeing Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Resilience: The ability to remain calm in an acute medical environment where patient needs can change rapidly.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal English skills are required. Knowledge of Te Reo Māori or Tikanga Māori is a strong advantage, as we serve a diverse Bay of Plenty community.
  • Team Spirit: A "can-do" attitude. You’re someone who sees a call bell and moves toward it.
