Are you an experienced Health Care Assistant with a can-do attitude and the flexibility to adapt to a changing clinical environment on a daily basis? If so, this role could be the ideal position for you.

About the Team/Service/Location

Our passionate paediatric and neonatal nursing teams provide high-quality, family-focused care for pēpē, tamariki, rangatahi and whānau across our units. SCBU is co-located with Maternity, enabling us to keep māmā and pēpē together whenever possible while caring for babies from approximately 32 weeks' gestation or stabilising sick neonates before transfer to Wellington. Our 12-bed Paediatric Unit provides care for children aged 0-15 years, supported by onsite paediatricians and close collaboration with specialist, allied health and iCAMHS teams.

As a Health Care Assistant, you will be part of our dedicated nursing environment with full support. Your role is to work within the team to assist nursing staff in care delivery, one-to-one patient therapeutic observations and other tasks as directed.

About You

  • We are looking for people with a mature outlook, the ability to get on with a wide variety of people and who have excellent communication skills.
  • You will need the ability to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability, and use appropriate initiative.
  • Experience within the health sector is preferred but is not essential as full training will be provided.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
  • NZQA level 3 qualification (or equivalent)*

Desirable

  • Home Carer Certificate (or equivalent)

Mandatory requirement

*NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, if not previously obtained, is to be commenced once orientations have been attended.

Experience within the health sector is required, and you will ideally hold a NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, or equivalent, or be willing to study toward.
