Opportunity to have a greater impact

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

Take advantage of this opportunity to support the clinical education/training needs of nursing staff within the Emergency Department at Wairau Hospital. This role utilises the principles of evidence-based practice to meet the learning needs of new and developing nursing team members.

The Clinical Coach Emergency Department is a key member of both the ED and Workforce Development teams. Although based in the Wairau ED, this role will also provide support for other areas in the organisation.

As a Clinical Coach it is your role to coach and educate staff to their best potential resulting in improved experiences for our health consumers. You will work alongside the ED team, in a clinical coach/mentoring capacity, leading and embedding evidence-based practice, developing education strategies, involving staff in identifying areas for development, and developing objectives and plans to help staff apply learnings to practice.

A large component of this role will be ensuring that clinical quality systems are in place within and across our nursing services to enhance care delivery.

About the Team/Service/Location

We have a small but busy Emergency Department at Wairau Hospital with 2 resus rooms and 13 treatment spaces and provide a supportive and nurturing workplace to assist staff to meet the challenges of this diverse area, at the frontline of the acute health care service. Professional development is important to us and we encourage all staff to participate in training and education.

We work hard, we do a fantastic job, and we enjoy doing it. Most importantly we achieve more by doing it together.

About You

We are looking for a NZ Registered Nurse with a current practising certificate and the skills required to provide education and coaching appropriate to emergency nursing. You will have a minimum of 3 to 4 years of ED, or other acute nursing experience, and the ability to demonstrate clinical leadership. You are a highly motivated person who can work with all your peers.

A post graduated certificate is desired and if this has not been achieved yet, then the expectation is that you would enrol in a post graduate clinical assessment and reasoning paper during the commencement of the clinical coach role.

You will be an experienced, resilient and adaptable senior registered nurse with a current practicing certificate and extensive adult acute critical/coronary care nursing experience.

  • You will have excellent communication and engagement skills, and you will have demonstrated your ability to teach adults in both formal and informal setting.
  • You will have a current Expert portfolio (or working towards) and a Certificate in Adult Teaching Level 4, as well as Masters of Nursing level post graduate education, or working towards (essential).
