Registered Nurse - Waikari Hospital

Our team at Waikari Hospital are seeking an experienced and adaptable Registered Nurse to join us on a casual contract. This is a varied rural nursing role where you will provide high-quality, person-centred care to patients with a diverse range of health needs. Working as a sole charge practitioner, you will use your clinical judgement and nursing expertise across aged care, rehabilitation, respite, general medical and palliative care.

You will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team while also having the confidence to work autonomously, assess changing patient needs and make sound clinical decisions. Our service operates Monday to Sunday, with casual shifts offered as required to provide cover for on-call, annual leave and sick leave. This opportunity would suit a Registered Nurse who enjoys variety, values strong relationships with patients and whānau, and is confident working within a rural healthcare environment.

Waikari Hospital is located in Waikari Village, approximately one hour's drive north of Christchurch on State Highway 1 and inland from Waipara. Set in beautiful grounds overlooking the Alps, Waikari Hospital plays an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community and the wider rural district. Our service provides continuing care of the elderly, general medical care, surgical rehabilitation, carer support, respite care and palliative care.

Our 10-bed hospital offers a close-knit and supportive working environment, with a team made up of Registered Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Cooks, Activities Coordinators and Maintenance/Gardeners. As part of our small rural team, you will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients, whānau and colleagues while providing care across a broad range of clinical needs.

You will be a confident and compassionate Registered Nurse who is comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will bring sound clinical judgement, adaptability and a genuine commitment to providing high-quality care. You will also have:
