Maintain accurate inpatient coding to support funding, planning, and research at Waikato Hospital

Clinical Coding, Waikato Hospital

Our talented team of Clinical Coders deliver accurate, thorough information for the health of our region. You will be responsible for identifying and translating inpatient medical procedures, interventions and diagnoses into code using ICD 10-AM 12th Edition, the Australian Coding Standards (ACS) and the Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI). The role is full time working Monday-Friday, based at the Waikato Hospital.

The Clinical Coding team code approximately 10,000 events a month, provide a timely and accurate clinical coding function with a focus on Quality, Capability (individual and team productivity), through education, professional development, and process improvement.

Applicants will need to clearly display strengths with managing multiple, high pressure high demand workflows, competing priorities and attention to detail. Your command of the English language must be clear and concise both in own articulation and narrative and/or receiving and understanding. You have a collaborative mindset, a positive outlook and strong work ethic.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • HIMAA Introductory Clinical Coding, NZ ACE or Expediated Clinical coding Course completion
  • 1-2 years minimum of current clinical coding experience using ICD10-AM 12th Edition
  • Solid understanding of Casemix systems and Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs)
  • Demonstrated accuracy, efficiency, and reliability in applying clinical coding knowledge independently
  • Demonstrated experience and associated evidenced education as a clinical coder is required to be considered for the role along with working knowledge of computer-based systems such as Microsoft Office suite, and/or software related directly to in-care hospital environments.
