Lead the ICU service development and provide 24/7 critical care coverage at Southland Hospital

Intensivist & Critical Care Medicine Specialist

Southland Hospital is looking for a full time or part time, permanent or 1 year locum physician with an interest in critical care medicine. The salary range is ASMS MECA (NZD 198,386 - 282,645).

Southland Hospital is remodelling its Critical Care Unit and has opportunities for dual trained specialist intensivists, anaesthetists, or emergency medical specialists with an interest in critical care medicine. The hospital currently has a six bed critical care unit and plans to expand to two intensive care level beds and four high dependency care level beds. The unit admits around 500 patients per annum with a diverse case-mix.

During the recruitment phase, duties will be shared with anaesthesia department colleagues. You will be expected to undertake a full share of the intensive care on-call roster with other team members. Other duties will include participation in teaching and supervision of junior doctors, nurses and medical students, team ward rounds, quality and safety activities, audit and clinical review meetings.

You will need to have vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council in intensive care medicine and/or your other specialty. To be considered for these roles, it is essential that you hold a post-graduate training and qualification in adult Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM or equivalent) as well as in your other specialist field.
