About the Role
As a Medical Typist - Casual Roving Reliever, you will provide accurate and timely transcription and administrative support to outpatient services across Palmerston North Hospital. You will be responsible for transcribing voice-recorded medical reports, clinic letters, assessments, operation notes, and other clinical documentation, ensuring high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.
This role requires flexibility and adaptability, as you will provide relief support across multiple departments as required. Working closely with clinicians, administration teams, and support staff, you will contribute to the smooth delivery of healthcare services and help ensure patients receive timely care.
Please note this is an on-site position based at Palmerston North Hospital.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Excellent keyboard skills, with a typing speed of at least 60 words per minute and 95% accuracy, or the ability to achieve this within a short timeframe.
- Strong written, verbal, and telephone communication skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A commitment to confidentiality, privacy, and high-quality customer service.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn multiple clinical systems.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to equitable healthcare outcomes.
Desired:
- Previous medical transcription experience or similar transcription experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Understanding of healthcare booking systems.

The Medical Typist Casual Pool supports outpatient and clinical services across Palmerston North Hospital. Our administration teams play a vital role in delivering efficient, patient-centred healthcare services while maintaining high standards of communication, documentation, and service delivery.
