Make a real difference on our PM shift at Whanganui Crisis Respite, supporting people through short-term, recovery-focused crisis respite care while using your Level 4 qualification, compassion, and practical skills to create a safe and supportive environment.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced support worker to join our 24/7 crisis respite team. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to enhance individuals' well-being by lending a empathetic ear, facilitating on-site activities like mindfulness and sensory modulation managing medications and maintaining our beautiful whare which is a place of beauty, tranquillity and healing. You will work as part of a motivated Team who are interested in wellbeing and sustainability.
In the role you will work from a trauma informed lens, you will bring a calm, flexible personality and a can-do attitude. Your ability to remain optimistic and positive in challenging situations will support you to achieve optimal outcomes for our guests. Your communication skills will enhance your professional and friendly manner, while maintaining clear boundaries to provide an environment that supports the achievement of equitable outcomes for all. You will work as part of a motivated Team and receive coaching and mentoring from highly experienced Registered Nurse who leads the service.
Shift pattern: Friday to Monday 1500hrs – 2330hrs; 32 hours per week. This role is working Friday to Monday 3pm – 11.30am in Whanganui.

You're a natural when it comes to caring with empathy and understand the power of working in a recovery-focused way, where individuals take care of their own journey, making you an ideal fit for this role.
- For our respite services, applicants must hold the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (NZCHW) or a recognised equivalent, or are currently studying towards this qualification or a recognised equivalent
- A current full driver's licenceCurrent first aid certificate or are you willing to obtain one
- Skills or experience in mindfulness and sensory modulation, or a willingness to develop these approaches to support guests' wellbeing
- Have knowledge of, and demonstrate commitment to the principles of the Te Tiriti O Waitangi
