About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Breast Surgeon to join our General Surgery team at Christchurch Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to provide specialist breast surgical services across the Canterbury region, managing both benign and malignant breast conditions within a well-established multidisciplinary framework. You will work closely with radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, breast care nurses, and allied health teams to provide comprehensive, high-quality care across the patient journey. The role includes elective and acute surgical responsibilities, participation in multidisciplinary meetings, and contribution to service development, teaching, and quality improvement initiatives. You will be part of a collaborative surgical department with strong support for innovation, education, and research.

The General Surgery Department at Christchurch Hospital provides a broad range of acute and elective services and is recognised for delivering high-quality specialist surgical care across the South Island. Our Breast Service is a key component of the wider surgical and cancer care pathway, offering coordinated multidisciplinary care and access to modern diagnostic and treatment facilities. About You

As a Breast Surgeon, you will:

  • Hold (or be eligible for) vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in General Surgery
  • Have specialist expertise and a strong clinical interest in breast surgery
  • Demonstrate experience in the management of both benign and malignant breast disease
  • Be committed to multidisciplinary collaboration and patient-centred care
  • Have a passion for teaching, service improvement, and maintaining clinical excellence
