Provide general medicine services in Northland with subspecialty interests and supervise registrars

Consultant General Medicine Physician with Subspecialty Interest

We are looking for physicians to provide medical services within Northland; these are a combination of new and replacement roles, and any subspecialty interest would be considered, in particular respiratory, infectious disease, rheumatology and neurology.

Existing specialties include:

  • General and Acute Medicine
  • Rheumatology
  • Respiratory
  • Gastroenterology including a visiting Hepatologist
  • Neurology
  • Cardiology
  • Infectious Disease
  • Endocrinology and Diabetes
  • Healthcare of the elderly
  • Maternal Medicine
  • Oncology and Haematology
  • Renal Medicine

The role will be divided into an off-ward role where elective work is undertaken and on wards managing inpatients. The on-call roster means working some weekends per year with a rostered day off after weekend work.

Our department has a family feel with a positive culture, although a busy and challenging environment everyone looks after each other and has a real passion for what they do and why they do it. Teaching and mentoring our 28 medical registrars is an important part of our work. We want candidates who are team players committed to improving and developing services to meet the population need with a passion for the delivery of equitable healthcare.

To be considered you must have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Internal Medicine Vocational scope of practice. If you are currently overseas / not yet registered, we can assist you with the application process to obtain MCNZ registration.
