Support Worker Opportunity in Nelson
Bring your NZ Level 4 Health and Wellbeing certificate to our service. This is a permanent part-time role, Friday to Sunday, 7am – 3.30pm. You'll enjoy extra annual leave and 2 wellbeing days annually.
Care for our tāngata whaiora to ensure they have what they need in our Nelson mental health service.

We're seeking a part-time Support Worker to join our team in Nelson. Based in a beautiful villa in The Wood, surrounded by tranquil trees and gardens, our 24/7 Crisis Respite and acute-admitting community house provides short-term support for people experiencing mental health distress who are unable to remain at home. In this role, you'll play a vital part in supporting tangata whai ora to rest, recover, and refocus using trauma-informed and AOD recovery approaches.
This shift is Friday to Sunday, 7am – 3.30pm based at The Wood in Nelson. You'll also:
- Focusing on the individuals needs and providing culturally safe practice
- Performing relevant administrative tasks, comprehensive notes, and effective handover, and supporting and collaborating with your colleagues
- Being prepared to support our clients to do whatever it takes using a recovery model
About you: Mental health experience is essential and a minimum qualification of the NZ Level 4 Health and Wellbeing certificate is required (or an equivalent qualification or be currently working towards it). A calm caring demeanour is essential and skills in de-escalation and mindfulness are valued. You'll align with our commitment to a recovery-focused approach and have the ability to provide medication support with meticulous attention to detail.
You'll have:
- New Zealand Certificate Level 4 in Health and Wellbeing (or a recognised equivalent, or currently studying towards it)
- Some mental health experience is needed. A full New Zealand driver's licence
- You must hold a current comprehensive first aid certificate or be willing to obtain one
- Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand. This role is not supported under the AEWV.
