Consultant Radiologist- Breast Imaging - Waikato

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Breast Radiologist to join the Radiology Department at Waikato Hospital. The Breast Care Centre delivers a range of diagnostic and screening assessment clinics, supported by a dedicated team of Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs), breast surgeons, breast nurses, and clerical staff. Weekly multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs) are held to guide patient management. The service also includes two mobile units that provide breast screening across the wider Waikato and Midlands region.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reporting breast imaging studies and a broad mix of complex clinical cases, including general radiology and acute imaging
  • Interpreting and reporting CT, Ultrasound, X-ray, and MRI studies
  • Participating in oncology multidisciplinary meetings
  • Supervising and teaching registrars
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of clinical standards and service quality

Waikato Hospital is a tertiary training hospital and Level 1 Trauma Centre, serving one of the busiest regions in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our Radiology Department performs over 200,000 examinations annually, with a strong focus on Emergency, Trauma, and Oncology imaging.

About You

You will bring:

  • Experience in Breast Reporting
  • Experience in performing breast biopsies and localization procedures x-ray and ultrasound guided
  • Accreditation with Breast screen Aotearoa or be willing to achieve accreditation with our support
  • Subspecialty fellowship or interest in breast imaging
  • Eligibility for registration in the Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Scope of Practice with the Medical Council of New Zealand
