Sydenham Souvlaki is providing quality food to customers in Canterbury region.  We are looking for a Kitchen hand. This is a full-time permanent role with a minimum of 30 hours per week at the rate of $25 to $31 per hour. The job will be roasted from Monday to Sunday.

Job Duties may include but not limited to:

  • Wash, clean, and sanitise dishes, pots, pans, cutlery, glassware, and kitchen equipment using manual and commercial dishwashing machines.
  • Assist cooks with basic food preparation tasks including washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and portioning vegetables, fruits, meats, and other ingredients as per Indian/Greek cooking requirement.
  • Prepare simple food items such as salads, Indian/Greek dishes/curries, and masalas under the supervision and as directed by Cook/Manager
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, storage rooms, and food preparation areas.
  • Clean kitchen appliances, ovens, grills, fryers, refrigerators, freezers and others
  • Remove waste, empty bins, and ensure proper waste segregation in accordance with hygiene and environmental standards.
  • Receive deliveries, check stock quality and quantity, label items, and store food and supplies correctly following FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Assist in setting up kitchen stations before service and packing down after service.
  • Support other staff during busy service periods to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Monitor cleaning supplies and report shortages or maintenance issues
  • Follow instructions from Manager or Cook and maintain teamwork

 Education and Experience:

NZ Level 1 or higher qualification or equivalent if overseas qualification
