Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon
Starship Children's Health, Auckland, New Zealand is inviting applications for a locum/casual or fixed term Surgeon position with the Paediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Service (PCCS). We invite expressions of interest from congenital cardiothoracic surgeons who can provide 2 week blocks of cover, or who are interested in a full-time, fixed-term contract of between 2 and 12 months duration.
The primary purpose of the role includes to provide acute and elective comprehensive consultant Paediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgical services for Te Toka Tumai, Auckland within a team structure, under supervision from the permanent full-time staff. Participate in clinical under-graduate and post-graduate clinical teaching, and supervision of surgical trainees.
The Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Service is the national service based at Starship Childrens Health, Auckland and is the sole provider of cardiology and cardiac surgical services for infants, children and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease for New Zealand and a number of Pacific Island nations.
The unit has a catchment population of four and a half million and we are performing over 400 cases per year of which 350 are bypasses. Twenty percent of the procedures are performed in neonates and 15% are adult congenital operations. Current outcomes are excellent with overall 30 day mortality of below 2% and neonatal mortality of below 4% (including a Norwood program).
To be successful in this role, you will require MBChB or equivalent, FRACS or equivalent/possession of a postgraduate qualification in Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Surgery, eligible to be registered as a Medical Practitioner in New Zealand. Apart from the above, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligible for such registration (Vocational Registration). Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
