About the Role

As a Booking Coordinator within Ambulatory Care, you will provide efficient and effective administrative support to ensure patients are booked and treated within agreed timeframes. You will be responsible for coordinating outpatient appointments, managing referrals, maintaining patient information, and supporting the smooth operation of clinics.

Working closely with clinical and administrative teams, you will communicate with patients, whānau, General Practitioners, and healthcare professionals to ensure accurate scheduling and a positive patient experience. This role requires excellent organization, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Hours of work: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional additional rostered shifts available.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Excellent verbal, written and telephone communication skills
  • Strong computer and data entry skills with a high level of accuracy
  • Proven administrative experience and the ability to work within established systems and processes
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands
  • A customer-focused approach and commitment to delivering quality service
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within healthcare environments
  • Experience with booking systems and medical terminology (desirable)

About the Team/Service

The Ambulatory Care team provides a vital service supporting patients through their healthcare journey. Our administration team plays an essential role in coordinating appointments, managing referrals, maintaining patient records, and ensuring the effective delivery of outpatient services. We are committed to providing a responsive, professional, and patient-centred service.

Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – MidCentral is a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
