Himalayas Restaurant in Rangiora is seeking an experienced and passionate Cook to join our kitchen team. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week. The successful applicant will prepare authentic Indian dishes to a consistently high standard, working in a fast-paced restaurant kitchen environment.

Pay: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour, dependent on skills and experience

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare, cook, and present a range of authentic Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori items, breads, and rice dishes, in line with the restaurant's recipes and quality standards
• Plan and organise food production to ensure dishes are prepared efficiently and served on time
• Monitor portion sizes, food costs, and wastage
• Check stock levels daily and assist with ordering ingredients and kitchen supplies
• Ensure all food is prepared, stored, and handled in accordance with New Zealand food safety and hygiene standards
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen at all times
• Work collaboratively with other kitchen and front-of-house staff during service
• Assist with training and guiding junior kitchen staff as required

Skills and Experience Required:

• A relevant qualification at New Zealand Register (NZQF) Level 4 or above (e.g. in cookery or culinary arts), OR a minimum of 2 years' recent relevant work experience as a Cook
• Sound knowledge of Indian culinary techniques, spices, and cooking methods
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure during busy service periods and weekends
• Strong attention to food quality, presentation, and hygiene standards
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
• A positive, reliable, and flexible approach to rostered hours, including evenings and weekends as required
