About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Health Care Assistant to join our Medical Ward team at Whanganui Hospital.

As a Health Care Assistant, you will be a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, supporting nursing staff to provide high quality care to patients. You will play an important role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the ward while contributing to a positive patient experience.

This position involves rostered and rotating shifts and requires a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care that includes and supports whānau.

The Medical Ward provides care for a diverse range of patients with acute and ongoing medical conditions. Our team is committed to delivering safe, high-quality healthcare in a supportive and collaborative environment.

About You

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience working as a Health Care Assistant or in a similar support role.
  • Hold a Health Care Assistant qualification (minimum NZQA Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Be sensitive and responsive to the needs of patients and whānau.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Be adaptable and able to respond to changing situations.
  • Have a good sense of humour and a positive outlook.
  • Hold the legal right to work in New Zealand.
