We are seeking an experienced Chinese Medicine Practitioner / Acupuncturist to join our established clinical team. The role includes acupuncture, TCM assessment, individualised treatment planning and prescribing Chinese herbal medicines. Applicants must hold a recognised qualification, be registered or eligible for registration in New Zealand, and have at least five years’ clinical experience. Fluent English is essential, while Mandarin Chinese is highly desirable.
About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Chinese Medicine Practitioner / Acupuncturist to join our established clinic.
The successful applicant will provide high-quality Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, and herbal medicine services to a diverse patient population. The practitioner will be expected to work independently while contributing effectively as part of our clinical team.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Conducting comprehensive patient consultations and assessments using Chinese Medicine principles.
- Establishing appropriate TCM diagnoses and developing individualised treatment plans.
- Providing acupuncture treatments safely and independently.
- Prescribing and dispensing appropriate herbal medicines, including Chinese herbal pills/patent herbal medicines, following individual patient assessment and within the practitioner's authorised scope of practice.
- Monitoring treatment outcomes and modifying treatment plans where clinically appropriate.
- Providing patients with appropriate advice regarding treatment, self-care and ongoing management.
- Maintaining accurate and professional clinical records.
- Communicating effectively with patients from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Maintaining appropriate standards of hygiene, infection prevention and patient safety.
- Contributing to the day-to-day operation and ongoing development of the clinic.
- Working collaboratively and professionally with other practitioners and healthcare providers where appropriate.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a recognised tertiary qualification in Chinese Medicine and/or Acupuncture appropriate for professional practice in New Zealand.
- Hold, or be eligible to hold, the appropriate New Zealand Chinese medicine practitioner registration and Annual Practising Certificate for the services required by the position.
- Have at least 5 years of combined clinical experience in Chinese medicine and acupuncture.
- Have formal education and clinical training covering Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture.
- Be experienced in independently assessing patients, establishing a TCM diagnosis and developing individualised treatment plans.
- Be appropriately qualified and competent to prescribe Chinese herbal medicines, including Chinese herbal pills/patent medicines, within the practitioner's authorised scope of practice.
- Have substantial clinical experience in a hospital, community healthcare service, Chinese medicine clinic, or other established clinical environment.
- Have strong professional, interpersonal and patient-management skills.
Language Requirements
Applicants must have fluent English, with strong verbal and written communication skills sufficient for independent clinical practice, clinical documentation, and effective communication with patients and other healthcare professionals.
Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is highly desirable, particularly to support effective communication with Mandarin-speaking patients.
