Responsibilities for Chef 

  • Prepare and cook high-quality dishes in accordance with established recipes and standards.

  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to plan and execute seasonal menus and specials.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Implement and monitor food safety protocols, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
  • Maintain proper food storage practices to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
  • Conduct regular kitchen inspections to uphold hygiene standards and safety practices.
  • Train kitchen staff on food safety and proper handling techniques.
  • Document and report any food safety issues to management promptly.

Your Culinary Toolkit

  • Proficient in using kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, fryers, and food processors.
  • Knowledge of food safety certifications such as HACCP or Food Safety Level 2.
  • Familiarity with menu management software for tracking inventory and orders.
  • Experience with various cooking techniques, including grilling, sautéing, and baking.
  • Ability to utilize plating techniques that enhance the visual appeal of dishes.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Duty Manager – Food & Beverage to join our hospitality team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily food and beverage operations, leading the team during shifts, maintaining high standards of customer service, and ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the venue.

This role is ideal for a confident hospitality professional with strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and a genuine passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day food and beverage operations and ensure smooth running of shifts.
Lead, motivate, and support front-of-house and food and beverage team members.
Supervise staff performance, allocate duties, and manage shift requirements.
Deliver consistently high standards of customer service and guest satisfaction.
Handle customer enquiries, feedback, complaints, and service recovery professionally.
Ensure compliance with New Zealand food safety, health and safety, and responsible service of alcohol requirements.
Monitor food and beverage quality, presentation, and service standards.
Assist with stock control, ordering, receiving deliveries, and inventory management.
Monitor sales, wastage, labour costs, and operational expenses.
Open and close the venue according to company procedures, including cash handling and security checks.
Ensure the venue is clean, organised, and presented to a high standard.
Train and coach team members and assist with onboarding new employees.
Communicate effectively with kitchen, bar, management, and other departments.
Complete shift reports and communicate operational issues to senior management.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and workplace health and safety matters.
Ensure company policies, procedures, and service standards are consistently followed.
Skills and Experience
Minimum 3 years’ experience in food and beverage or hospitality, with supervisory/duty management experience preferred.
Strong leadership and team-management skills.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm and professional in a busy environment.
Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
Good knowledge of food and beverage operations.
Experience with POS systems, cash handling, and basic reporting.
Understanding of New Zealand food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
LCQ (Licence Controller Qualification) and Manager’s Certificate are advantageous where applicable to the role.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
