Global Trading Limited T/A Happy Chef is looking for two reliable, hardworking and experienced Cooks to join our team on a  permanent basis at our takeaway business in Auckland. Happy Chef is a gourmet takeaway specialising in gourmet burgers and Turkish-style kebabs, with a menu featuring venison, Angus beef, chicken, lamb and vegetarian burgers, as well as chicken shawarma kebabs. Committed to providing customers with quality food, consistent preparation and excellent flavour.

The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of gourmet burgers, shawarma kebabs and other takeaway food items in accordance with Happy Chef's recipes, preparation methods and quality standards.

The successful applicant will work closely with the kitchen team to ensure food is prepared efficiently, safely and consistently, particularly during busy service periods.

 

Cook – Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a range of menu items, including venison, Angus beef, chicken, lamb and veggie burgers.
  • Prepare and cook shawarma kebabs and other Turkish-style food items in accordance with the restaurant’s menu.
  • Prepare ingredients, including meats, vegetables, sauces, fillings and garnishes, according to recipes and portion requirements.
  • Operate grills, fryers, ovens and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor cooking times, temperatures, portion sizes and presentation to maintain consistent food quality.
  • Ensure food is prepared and presented according to the restaurant’s recipes, quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Maintain adequate preparation of ingredients during busy service periods to ensure timely customer orders.
  • Check the quality and freshness of ingredients and report any shortages or quality issues to management.
  • Store, label and rotate food ingredients appropriately to minimise waste and maintain food quality.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of food preparation areas, cooking equipment, utensils and storage areas.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, workplace health and safety requirements and established kitchen procedures.
  • Assist with stock control, including monitoring ingredient usage and notifying management when supplies need replenishing.
  • Minimise food wastage through appropriate preparation, portion control and storage practices.
  • Assist other kitchen staff with food preparation and general kitchen operations as required.

Work Experience or Education

A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience, or a relevant NZ Level 4 cookery qualification (or equivalent overseas qualification)
