About the Role

Are you ready to begin your midwifery career in a supportive and rewarding environment?

We are seeking enthusiastic and passionate New Graduate Midwives to join our Maternity Service at Timaru Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to consolidate your undergraduate learning while gaining valuable experience across a range of maternity settings within South Canterbury.

As part of our Midwifery First Year of Practice (MFYP) Programme, you will be supported by experienced midwives, clinical coaches, educators, and maternity leaders who are committed to helping you build confidence and develop your clinical skills. You will have the opportunity to work across antenatal, labour and birth, and postnatal care services while providing high-quality, whānau-centred maternity care.

Our maternity team is passionate about supporting women, pēpi, and whānau throughout their maternity journey. We pride ourselves on fostering a positive team culture where learning, collaboration, and professional development are encouraged.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

We are looking for New Graduate midwives who have an exceptional commitment to quality care and enjoy being involved in a variety of tasks to ensure the very best care is provided at all times.

What you will bring:

• Completed (or completing) a Bachelor of Midwifery in 2025 or 2026 •Passionate about midwifery and committed to ongoing learning •Strong communication skills and a desire to build meaningful relationships with whānau •A team player who values diversity, integrity, and collaboration

Desirable:

• Clinical placement experience within maternity services • An interest in rural and community maternity care • A strong commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement

Salary Range

This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the MERAS Collective Agreement and the salary will be in accordance with the applicable pay scale for New Graduate Midwives.
