About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Haematology team within the Regional Cancer Treatment Service.

This advanced nursing role provides specialist clinical leadership, care coordination, and expert nursing care for patients with both malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions. You will work collaboratively with Haematologists, Nurse Practitioners, primary care providers, regional services, and multidisciplinary teams to improve access, equity, and patient outcomes across the region.

A key component of this position is the delivery and ongoing development of nurse-led haematology clinics and regional service models. You will provide advanced assessment, symptom management, patient education, treatment support, clinical decision-making, and care coordination throughout the patient journey, including diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, supportive care, and palliative care where required.

This role offers the opportunity to influence service development, strengthen regional access to specialist haematology care, and contribute to improving outcomes for Māori and other populations experiencing health inequities.

About the Team / Service

The Regional Cancer Treatment Service provides specialist cancer care for a large regional population spanning MidCentral, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, and Whanganui.

Our Haematology service delivers comprehensive treatment and supportive care for patients with both malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions through a collaborative multidisciplinary approach. The team includes Haematologists, Haematolgoy Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Registered Nurses, Allied Health professionals, pharmacists, and support staff who are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

About You

You are an experienced nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality specialist care and committed to improving outcomes for patients receiving haematology services.

Essential

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate
• Minimum five years' experience as a Registered Nurse, including recent experience in Haematology, Oncology, Cancer Services, or a related specialty
• Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and expertise in caring for patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions
• Strong clinical assessment, care coordination, clinical decision-making, and symptom management skills
• Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and patient advocacy skills
• Commitment to quality improvement, service development, and evidence-based practice
• Demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori
• Commitment to culturally safe practice and reducing health inequities
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining clinical competency

Desirable

• Postgraduate qualification in Nursing, Cancer Nursing, Haematology Nursing, Advanced Practice, or a related health discipline
• Experience leading nurse-led clinics or ambulatory models of care
• Experience supporting regional service delivery, outreach services, or telehealth models
• Prescriber qualification or working towards RN prescribing
• Chemotherapy administration/ADAC certification
• Experience caring for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation
• Experience leading quality improvement, audit, research, or service development initiatives
• Current Senior Nurse PDRP portfolio or working towards Senior Nurse PDRP recognition
• Knowledge of contemporary malignant and non-malignant haematology treatment pathways
