We are seeking an experienced and reliable Indian Sweet Maker to join our team in Rotorua. The successful applicant will have practical experience preparing a wide range of traditional Indian sweets and desserts while maintaining consistent quality, taste, presentation and hygiene standards.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare traditional Indian sweets such as barfi, gulab jamun, jalebi, rasgulla, ladoo, peda, kalakand and other speciality products.
- Prepare milk-based, flour-based, nut-based and syrup-based sweets.
- Measure, mix and cook ingredients according to established recipes.
- Prepare sugar syrups, fillings, garnishes and flavouring mixtures.
- Shape, decorate and present sweets to a high standard.
- Maintain consistency in the taste, texture, size and appearance of products.
- Develop new sweets and seasonal products when required.
- Prepare bulk orders for festivals, functions and special occasions.
- Monitor the quality and freshness of ingredients.
- Manage stock levels and assist with ordering supplies.
- Store ingredients and finished products safely.
- Minimise food wastage and control production costs.
- Clean and maintain cooking equipment, utensils and preparation areas.
- Follow all food-safety, hygiene and health-and-safety requirements.
- Train and assist junior kitchen or production staff when required.
Skills and experience
The successful applicant should:
- Have at least 3 years of relevant experience as an Indian Sweet Maker; or
- Have sound knowledge of traditional Indian sweet-making methods.
- Understand the correct use of milk products, flour, sugar, nuts, spices and food colouring.
- Be able to manage temperature, consistency and timing during production.
- Be capable of producing sweets in large quantities without compromising quality.
- Have excellent attention to detail and presentation.
- Be reliable, punctual and able to work under pressure.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Be available to work weekends, public holidays and additional hours during festivals and busy periods.

- Pay of $28.00–$32.00 per hour, depending on experience.
