We operate a reputable café in Napier, providing dine-in and takeaway services through a quick-service restaurant model, with food prepared fresh to order.


We are seeking a capable and responsible Café General Manager to take ownership of the café’s day-to-day operations and ensure a consistently high-quality customer experience. The manager will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the operational standards, systems and processes established by the business.

Reporting to the business owner, the Café General Manager will be accountable for the store’s overall performance and will represent the owner in dealings with employees, accountant, suppliers, contractors, local council and customers.


The role includes:


• Taking full responsibility for the daily operation, service standards and performance of the café.
• Planning workflows, staffing levels and rosters to meet service needs and the approved labour budget.
• Managing staff recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, supervision, performance and conduct.
• Reviewing sales, setting branch targets and managing operating costs and branch budgets.
• Planning and reviewing menu implementation with kitchen staff, and recommending menu, pricing or local
special changes to the owner based on customer demand, food costs and sales performance.
• Planning and organising special functions, group bookings, catering orders and local promotions.
• Managing stock levels, purchasing and ordering, and reviewing supplier price, quality, reliability and service
within the company’s product standards.
• Identifying suitable alternative suppliers where appropriate and making recommendations or changes after
confirming product specifications and obtaining any required owner approval.
• Maintaining stock and financial records, processing invoices, completing banking, investigating discrepancies
and preparing regular business reports.
• Working with the accountant on invoices, financial information, cashflow, budgets and branch reporting when
required.
• Managing food safety, health and safety, employment compliance, council requirements and company
standards.
• Monitoring customer satisfaction, resolving complaints and maintaining a clean, safe and suitable dining
environment.
• Managing store maintenance, contractors and branch-specific marketing within the approved company
guidelines and budget.
• Assisting with reservations, customer orders and service when required.


Training


Job-specific training will be provided on the company’s systems, operating standards, approved product specifications and operating procedures. This training supports the manager’s responsibility for running the store.

Requirements

• A recognised certificate, diploma or degree at NZQF Level 4 or above in business, commerce, hospitality or a related field; OR Proven experience of at least two years in the retail and/or hospitality industry.
• The ability to lead a team and take responsibility for store performance.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Computer skills suitable for POS, rostering, accounting, inventory and reporting systems.
• Strong customer service, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Availability to work rostered lunch and dinner shifts, weekends and public holidays.


Hours of Work


This is a permanent full-time position with 30-40 guaranteed hours per week. The café operates seven days, and the successful applicant must be available for rostered lunch and dinner shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
