About the Role

Are you an experienced paediatric nursing leader ready to make a lasting impact on the health and wellbeing of tamariki and whānau across Hawke's Bay?

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking an exceptional Charge Nurse Manager (CNM) Paediatric Services to provide operational management, clinical leadership, and strategic direction across our paediatric services. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a passionate multidisciplinary team while driving innovation, quality improvement, and equity-focused care.

As the CNM, you will oversee a diverse portfolio including:

• Paediatric Inpatient Ward
• Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU)
• Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU)
• Paediatric Ambulatory Services
• Piki te Ora

Working in partnership with the Group Leadership Team, you will play a key role in ensuring safe, high - quality, patient - centred care while supporting the ongoing development of services that respond to the unique needs of our local communities.

This is a senior nursing leadership position responsible for:

• Providing visible clinical and operational leadership across Paediatric Services.
• Leading service development and innovation to improve outcomes for tamariki and whānau.
• Ensuring patient safety, quality care, and excellence in clinical practice.
• Managing staffing, workforce development, recruitment, and performance.
• Supporting effective patient flow and capacity management.
• Leading quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities.
• Managing budgets, resources, risk, and compliance requirements.
• Driving cultural and organisational change that supports service excellence.
• Fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
• Strengthening our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equitable health outcomes.

About the Team/Service/Location

You would lead a dedicated and highly skilled paediatric workforce providing inpatient and outpatient services to the tamariki of Hawkes Bay

Hawke's Bay Hospital is a 400-bed secondary level accredited public hospital in Hastings, located on the east coast of the North Island. Serving a population of over 180,000 people, we provide both acute and elective care, with a wide range of medical and surgical specialties (excluding cardiothoracic and neurosurgery), as well as paediatrics and obstetrics & gynaecology. We are supported by a strong regional ICU team, ensuring comprehensive care for a diverse patient population.

Paediatric Services are provided inpatient and outpatient facilities in Wairoa, Napier, Hastings and Central Hawkes Bay as well as home visiting services.

About You

You will have:

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current APC.
• At least 6 to 8 years of recent and relevant paediatric clinical experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams in complex clinical environments.
• Strong understanding of workforce planning, quality improvement, and patient safety.
• Experience managing staffing, recruitment, and performance processes.
• Sound business and financial management skills.
• An expert-level nursing portfolio through an approved PDRP.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
• A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving outcomes for Māori.
• Confidence and capability to kōrero with individuals, whānau, and groups.
