About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Café Manager to lead our team at our Auckland International Airport location and contribute to the continued growth and success of the business.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a passion for hospitality, and a hands-on approach to managing daily operations. This role requires a high level of customer service, the ability to manage and motivate staff, and sound knowledge of hospitality operations.

The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the store, implementing business strategies, managing staff, maintaining high service standards, and ensuring the business operates efficiently and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the Auckland International Airport store efficiently and effectively.
  • Lead, motivate, train, and supervise front-of-house and kitchen staff.
  • Prepare staff rosters and coordinate staffing requirements to ensure appropriate coverage across operating hours.
  • Ensure customers receive a consistently high standard of service and hospitality.
  • Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements to products, service, and overall customer experience.
  • Assist customers by providing information about Japanese food products and menu items.
  • Ensure food is prepared, presented, and served in accordance with the business's quality standards.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, food safety, and hygiene at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, food hygiene, employment, and airport operational requirements.
  • Manage stock procurement, inventory levels, ordering, and supplier relationships.
  • Monitor stock levels and minimise food waste while ensuring sufficient stock is available to meet customer demand.
  • Monitor sales, costs, and operational performance and implement strategies to improve profitability.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies aimed at increasing sales, profitability, and customer engagement.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to grow the business and strengthen the store's presence within the Auckland Airport environment.
  • Plan and coordinate marketing and promotional initiatives to attract and retain customers.
  • Manage and regularly update online delivery and ordering platforms, including Uber Eats and other applicable platforms.
  • Assist with resolving customer enquiries and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure the store is adequately prepared for busy trading periods and operates efficiently during peak times.
  • Complete administrative and reporting duties associated with the management of the store.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess the following qualifications, experience, and attributes:

  • A relevant qualification in business, management, administration, hospitality, or a related field, or a minimum of two years' relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience in a café, restaurant, food service, or hospitality management role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organisational, and customer service skills.
  • Good understanding of hospitality operations, food safety, stock management, and staff supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • A proactive, self-motivated, and solution-focused approach.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team in a busy and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain high standards during peak trading periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and variable shifts, as the store operates seven days a week.
  • Ability to work in an airport environment and comply with applicable Auckland International Airport operational and security requirements.
