Cafe Assistant

Responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, take accurate food and beverage orders, and provide menu recommendations when required. 
• Prepare and serve food and beverages efficiently, ensuring good presentation and quality.
• Assist with basic food preparation, including washing, cutting, measuring, and mixing ingredients according to recipes and food safety standards.
• Manage seating arrangements, coordinate reservations, and maintain a smooth flow of customers.
• Process payments accurately using the POS system, including cash, EFTPOS, and credit card transactions.
• Clean food preparation areas, service areas, cooking surfaces, utensils, and dining spaces.
• Clear, reset, and organise tables, chairs, and counters to maintain a welcoming environment.
• Replenish stock, monitor supplies, and assist with ordering and receiving deliveries.
• Coordinate takeaway and delivery orders, ensuring accuracy and timely service.
• Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to deliver efficient service.
• Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health and safety requirements.
• Assist with opening and closing duties.
• Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the Manager or Director.

Candidate Requirements

• Be physically fit and able to carry out the duties of the role.
• Be honest, reliable, and have a strong work ethic.
• Be available to work flexible hours, including weekends.
• Be drug-free.
• Have a clear Ministry of Justice check.
• Have excellent customer service skills.
• Maintain a clean and tidy appearance and work environment.
• Provide satisfactory work references.
• Be able to travel reliably to work, as the café operates seven days a week.
• Bring energy, integrity, and a positive attitude to the team.

Qualifications and Experience

• Applicants must hold a qualification in hospitality, hotel management, catering, or a related field.
• At least one year’s experience working as a barista would be an advantage but is not essential.

Hours and Employment Type

• Full-time, permanent position.
• A minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week.

Pay Rate

• $24.00 per hour.
