Cook – Vietnamese Eatery
PHO SHO LIMITED is a Vietnamese eatery serving authentic Vietnamese dishes. We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable Cooks to join our busy kitchen team.
Position: Cook
Location: Porirua, Wellington region
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time
Working Hours: Guaranteed Minimum 30 hours per week, maximum 60 hours per week
Pay Rate: NZD $25.00 – $28.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
· Checking food ingredients to make sure they are fresh and of good quality.
· Preparing ingredients, including washing, cutting, chopping and portioning food.
· Preparing and cooking food according to recipes and menu requirements.
· Checking and adjusting the temperature of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment.
· Seasoning food during preparation and cooking.
· Portioning and presenting cooked food, including adding sauces and garnishes.
· Storing food correctly in refrigerators, freezers and other temperature-controlled areas.
· Preparing meals for customers with special dietary requirements when needed.
· Checking the quality of food during preparation and cooking.
· Assisting with menu planning and estimating food requirements when required.
· Monitoring stock levels and helping to order and rotate food supplies.
· Keeping the kitchen, equipment and work areas clean and hygienic.
· Following food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
· Assisting with training or guiding other kitchen staff when required.
Minimum Requirements
- At least one year of relevant work experience in a commercial kitchen; or
- A Level 4 qualification in cookery or a related field.
Applicants who meet one of the above requirement will be considered for the role.
Applicants should also:
- Have good knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
- Be able to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
- Have a good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety.
- Be reliable, punctual and able to work as part of a team.
- Be available to work rostered shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
Experience preparing Vietnamese cuisine would be an advantage but is not essential.
