About the Role

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Addiction Services, you will act as the clinical expert and care coordinator for people experiencing problem alcohol and other drug use, ensuring they receive safe, high-quality withdrawal management and are connected to ongoing recovery supports. You will undertake comprehensive assessments, develop and coordinate care plans, provide specialist interventions, and support individuals withdrawing from substances including alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, methamphetamine, and other drugs. The role includes a key focus on strengthening addiction service responses to methamphetamine use and contributing to the ongoing development of specialist addiction services across the region.

This is a highly rewarding and influential role where you'll combine advanced clinical practice with leadership and service development. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you'll provide expert advice on complex clinical issues, contribute to the development of evidence-based pathways and protocols, and help shape innovative approaches that improve patient safety, recovery outcomes, and service delivery across the addiction sector.

About the Team/Service/Location

Our Addiction Service provides specialist assessment, treatment, and recovery-focused support for people experiencing alcohol and other drug-related challenges. We are committed to delivering equitable, person-centred, and culturally responsive care while working closely with community partners, primary care providers, and multidisciplinary teams to support long-term recovery and wellbeing.

Based in Hastings, you'll be part of a passionate team dedicated to improving outcomes for tangata whaiora and whānau across Hawke's Bay.

About You

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will bring:

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
• At least five years' experience in mental health and addiction nursing.
• Advanced clinical assessment, care coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and providing expert clinical advice.
• A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care.

Desirable:

• A postgraduate qualification relevant to the role (preferably a PG Diploma) and progression towards a Clinical Master's qualification.
• A current expert-level PDRP portfolio.
• Experience in quality improvement and service development initiatives.
