Physician - General Medicine

Rewarding opportunity for experienced Physicians to join the Department of General Medicine, providing health care to adults in an inpatient setting.

We are part of Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, the overarching organisation for New Zealand's national health service. Health New Zealand leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.

We provide health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Childrens Hospital, located in central Auckland.

We are committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and providing culturally safe care. We value role modelling manaakitanga as demonstrated by Ngāti Whātua in the gifting of their whenua on which our hospitals stand. We aspire to having a workforce reflective of the communities we serve and achieving equitable outcomes for all.

General Medicine is an acute service based at Auckland City Hospital and is part of the Adult Medical Directorate at Te Toka Tumai. We are an inclusive, friendly team with excellent relationships amongst colleagues with varied subspecialty interests including infectious diseases, immunology and obstetric medicine. We are well supported by junior staff and we take regular annual and CME leave. The service provides inpatient, General Medical care for the population of central Auckland.

Should you be successful in your application we will welcome you, and together we will strive for high performance and the safest care. We look forward to you being part of our team celebrations and social gatherings. We provide mentorship for those new to the New Zealand system as well as those starting out as a new SMO.

Our department has a comprehensive teaching programme, together with opportunities for involvement in Auckland Medical School, research and service improvement initiatives.
