We are seeking a caring and reliable Health Care Assistant for a permanent, full-time position in Auckland, offering a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week at $25–$28 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. The role involves supporting elderly people with personal care, mobility, meals, household tasks, appointments, companionship and overall wellbeing. Empathy, patience and a respectful, compassionate approach are essential to ensure clients feel safe, comfortable and supported.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with personal care, including showering, dressing, grooming, toileting and hygiene.
  • Support safe mobility, transfers and movement around the home.
  • Provide medication reminders and support in line with care plans and instructions.
  • Monitor general health and wellbeing and report any significant changes.
  • Assist with medical appointments, shopping and other necessary activities.
  • Prepare meals and assist with eating and hydration where required.
  • Complete light household tasks such as laundry, bed linen and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Provide companionship and encourage suitable daily activities and independence.
  • Maintain appropriate care, medication and appointment records.
  • Follow infection control, hygiene, manual handling and health and safety procedures.
  • Communicate with family members and relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and maintain confidentiality.
  • Treat the elderly person with empathy, kindness and respect, while recognising their individual needs, preferences, privacy and cultural values.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties related to the elderly person’s care and wellbeing.

Ideal Candidate

  • Caring, patient, empathetic, trustworthy and reliable, with a genuine interest in supporting and caring for elderly people.
  • Level 4 qualification in Health Care, Health and Wellbeing or a related field, OR at least 2 years of work experience in aged care, healthcare assistance, personal care or a similar role.
  • Good English communication skills to understand care instructions and communicate with family members and healthcare professionals.
  • Conversational Hindi is highly advantageous, as the elderly person primarily communicates in Hindi.
  • A current First Aid Certificate and valid driver licence would be advantageous.
  • Able to work independently in a private-home environment and safely carry out the physical requirements of elderly care.
