General Surgery Consultant - Part-Time

The successful applicant will join our SMO team of friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated professionals in the General Surgery Department. The colorectal surgical service provides tertiary referral service for advanced pelvic malignancies. There is a colorectal fellow who is usually allocated by the training board in colorectal surgery. There is a strong working relationship with gastroenterology service managing endoscopy services and inflammatory bowel disease. There is regional robotic surgical service, and we are looking to develop our robotic colorectal program into the future.

Your responsibilities will include outpatient clinics, elective and acute theatre sessions, and endoscopy sessions. There would be approximately five half day acute general surgical theatre sessions per fortnight. You will be required to be on call on in accordance with the After Hours On Call Agreement. There may be other clinical commitments such as grading referrals, and supporting gynaecology services performing complex endometriosis surgical procedures.

The candidate should have FRACS in General Surgery. They should have completed at least two years of post-fellowship training in colorectal surgery prior to commencing the role. Membership of the CSSANZ (at least provisionally) is highly desirable. Post-fellowship training in advanced pelvic malignancy would be advantageous. The candidate must be able to be credentialled in colonoscopy (i.e. have recognition of training in colonoscopy by conjoint committee preferred). Some experience in robotic colorectal procedures may be advantageous. Salaries and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the NZ Association of Salaried Medical Specialists collective agreement.
