The Opportunity

The Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) at Auckland City Hospital is looking for two experienced and motivated Ward Clerks to join our team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work at the heart of a busy critical care environment, where no two days are the same. As a Ward Clerk you will be a key point of contact for patients, whānau and visitors, helping create a welcoming experience while ensuring the smooth da-to-day running of the department.

About the Role

These are two permanent part-time positions. A total of 1.2 FTE (48 hours a week) is available across the two roles, with flexibility in how hours are allocated between successful candidates.

The roster is predominantly Monday to Friday, with alternate weekends. The successful applicants will be expected to demonstrate flexibility and must be willing to cover for other team members as required to support service delivery. Days and hours of work may be varied in accordance with service requirements.

We're looking for people who are organised, adaptable and customer-focused, with strong administration skills and the ability to remain calm and effective in a busy environment.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Be the first point of contact for patients, whānau and visitors to the service, providing a professional and welcoming experience
  • Manage patient admissions, discharges and patient movements using hospital information systems
  • Maintain accurate patient information and departmental records
  • Provide administrative support to clinical and multidisciplinary team members to support the delivery of patient care
  • Support the efficient day-to-day operation of the service through a range of administrative activities
  • Order administration supplies, action maintenance requests and maintain departmental databases
  • Liaise with specialist services and external agencies

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have:

  • A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
  • A minimum of 2 years administrative/clerical experience, ideally within a healthcare environment
  • Advanced computer skills and confidence learning new systems - knowledge of hospital IT programmes and systems would be advantageous
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and perform well in a busy environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality customer focus through professional and responsive face-to-face, telephone and email interactions
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse range of people
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to contribute positively to a collaborative work environment while also working independently when required
  • Flexibility to work changing roster patterns, including weekends and public holidays, and to provide cover during periods of staff absence
