Combine senior clinical practice with supervision and workforce development

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau is seeking an experienced Senior Podiatrist to join our Podiatry Service, with designated responsibility for supporting the Foot Care Assistant (FCA) Kaiāwhina workforce development pilot.

This role combines senior podiatry practice with clinical supervision and workplace development of FCAs undertaking the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) Foot Care Assistant.

You will provide day-to-day supervision, mentoring and practical learning support, helping FCAs develop safe practice within their delegated role. Alongside this, you will maintain an appropriate Senior Podiatrist clinical caseload and contribute to wider service delivery according to operational requirements.

About the role

Working with the FCA programme facilitator, podiatry leadership and wider multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Provide day-to-day clinical supervision, mentoring and workplace learning support to FCAs.
  • Support safe delegation, role boundaries and appropriate clinical escalation.
  • Observe clinical practice and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Support development of FCA workplace competencies.
  • Foster a culturally safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Contribute to evaluation and development of the FCA workforce pilot.
  • Maintain an appropriate Senior Podiatrist clinical caseload and provide senior clinical input according to service needs.

This is a Senior Podiatrist clinical role with designated FCA supervision responsibilities, rather than a solely education-based position.

About you

We are looking for an experienced podiatrist who enjoys developing others while remaining actively engaged in senior clinical practice.

You will bring:

  • Strong clinical skills and senior-level clinical judgement.
  • Experience in clinical teaching, supervision or workforce development.
  • An understanding of delegation, professional scope and clinical accountability.
  • Confidence supporting learners and providing constructive feedback.
  • Strong communication, organisation and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to culturally safe practice and improving outcomes for Māori and Pacific communities.

Experience supervising students, new graduates, assistants or other developing healthcare workers would be an advantage.

Essential requirements

  • New Zealand registration as a Podiatrist with a current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Minimum five years' relevant podiatry clinical experience.
  • Experience in clinical teaching and/or professional supervision.
  • Ability to practise independently and provide senior-level clinical input.
