About the Role

Working as a Registered Nurse in the Critical Care Medicine is both challenging and highly rewarding. This specialised role requires advanced clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and the ability to provide compassionate, patient-centred care in a fast-paced environment.

As part of our Critical Care team, you will care for patients who are critically ill or injured, many of whom require complex interventions, continuous monitoring, and rapid clinical decision-making. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team committed to delivering exceptional care and achieving the best possible outcomes for patients and their whānau.

This position is available on a permanent full-time basis.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) is a modern, 26-bed unit providing both Intensive Care (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) services. As a tertiary referral centre for the Northern Region, we care for a diverse range of patients, including those requiring liver transplantation, major trauma, neurosurgical, vascular, and complex medical care.

About You

As an ideal candidate, you will have experience working in an acute setting in New Zealand or overseas, critical care experience is an advantage. You will have the ability to work autonomously, use initiative wisely and most importantly, be able to hit the ground running.

Current New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate

Previous experience in acute care or critical care is desirable.

Intensive care qualification desirable, but not essential

Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Excellent time management and organisational skills

Good level of computer literacy.

A high degree of self-motivation, willingness, and self-responsibility to continually improve and remain current with nursing skills and knowledge.

High levels of professionalism with an enthusiastic, proactive, flexible approach.

Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
