Salary: ASMS MECA 2026 (NZD $198,386–$282,645), based on recognised experience

About the role

We are seeking a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join our team on a fixed-term basis, providing parental leave cover from November 2026 to November 2027.

Based at Dunedin Hospital, you will join a collegial team of 11 consultants. Our department supports a maternity unit with approximately 20 antenatal and postnatal beds, an operating theatre, and antenatal and outpatient obstetric clinics. Dunedin Hospital also has a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a dedicated Women's Health Unit.

The service is supported by an experienced team of midwives and specialist obstetrics, gynaecology and colposcopy nurses.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing consultant-led antenatal, gynaecology and colposcopy clinics
• Working across maternity, surgical wards, operating theatres, the Early Pregnancy Clinic and the Emergency Department
• Providing outreach clinics and supporting rural maternity units
• Participating in the on-call roster
• Providing after-hours oversight of labour and birth, acute antenatal and gynaecological assessments and admissions, and patients following acute or elective surgery

You will bring a strong commitment to delivering effective and efficient inpatient and outpatient services and working collaboratively as part of a close-knit team.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience as a Consultant, Fellow or Senior Registrar
• RANZCOG accreditation or an equivalent recognised specialist qualification
• Vocational registration, or eligibility for vocational registration, in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Medical Council of New Zealand
• Certification to provide colposcopy services
• A collaborative approach and commitment to high-quality patient care

Salary range

This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement, although union membership is optional. The current base rate falls between the Step 1 ($198, 386) and Step 15 ($282,645) per annum. Your take home salary also attracts an on call and availability allowances. You are also entitled to continued medical education monies, and an annual leave entitlement of six weeks per annum.
