About the Role

Are you a recent midwifery graduate looking to begin your career in a supportive and welcoming environment?

We are seeking a New Zealand Registered Midwife to join our modern maternity unit at Whangārei Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for new graduate midwives to build confidence, consolidate clinical skills, and gain valuable experience across a range of maternity settings while being supported by an experienced and passionate team.

As a Registered Midwife in Te Kotuku Maternity Unit, you will:

  • Be supported through your transition from student to practitioner, including participation in the Midwifery First Year of Practice Programme.
  • Work alongside experienced midwives and multidisciplinary colleagues who are committed to mentoring and professional development.
  • Develop your skills as an autonomous practitioner while providing safe, evidence-based and holistic maternity care.
  • Work in partnership with women, whānau, Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs), and the wider healthcare team to ensure high-quality care throughout the inpatient stay.
  • Gain exposure to a diverse range of maternity experiences, helping you grow your knowledge and confidence in a supportive clinical environment.
  • Provide emergency midwifery support when required and assist with transfers to other maternity services.

About You

We are looking for enthusiastic and passionate new graduate midwives who are eager to learn and build their careers within a supportive maternity service.

Key Requirements

  • New Zealand Registered Midwife with a current Practising Certificate from the Midwifery Council of New Zealand.
  • Recent midwifery graduate with evidence of enrolment in the Midwifery First Year of Practice Programme.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to providing culturally safe, person-centred care.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
