About the Role

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Patient at Risk (PAR), you will provide a hospital-wide specialist service focused on the early recognition and management of patients at risk of clinical deterioration. Using advanced assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills, you will support patients across adult, maternity, paediatric, and inpatient services, ensuring timely interventions and coordinated care.

This is a highly autonomous and rewarding role where you will provide expert clinical leadership, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to improving patient safety and patient flow. You will also play a key role in education, mentoring, and quality improvement initiatives, helping staff build confidence in recognising and responding to deteriorating patients.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Patient at Risk (PAR) Service is based within the Intensive Care Unit and provides expert clinical support across the hospital. The team works closely with nursing, medical, and allied health professionals to deliver responsive, evidence-based care and improve outcomes for patients requiring urgent assessment and intervention.

About You

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will bring:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
  • At least five years' recent experience in critical care and/or emergency nursing.
  • Advanced assessment, clinical decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proven ability to provide clinical leadership, education, and support within multidisciplinary teams.
