What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidates will:

  • Have at least 5 years' experience as an RN with a minimum of 2 years in area of specialty
  • On the pathway to a relevant master's degree in nursing
  • Be working towards a Senior Nurse Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) Portfolio
  • An understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in the nursing role
  • Comprehensive understanding the NZ Health System including equity issues, professional leadership and emerging issues for the nursing profession
  • A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
  • Communicate with confidence and clarity, building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Sound knowledge of Te Ao Māramatanga Standards of Practice for Mental Health Nurses

This is a Permanent, Full-Time position based at Palmerston North Hospital, reporting to the Manawatu Locality Service Manager.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Eating Disorders works across health care systems and the continuum of care to deliver advanced nursing practice activities and outcomes with a particular focus on improving access and experiences for Māori and whānau who may face inequities within the mental health system.

The CNS functions as an expert: practitioner, consultant, leader, educator, researcher, and change agent in the pursuit of clinical excellence and improved health outcomes. This role focuses on improving access, reducing barriers to care, and enhancing outcomes for whaiora and whānau, with a strong commitment to equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

The CNS practices at a level which requires substantial theoretical knowledge in the clinical area of nursing practice and expert utilisation of this knowledge. The CNS translates advanced nursing standards, expert clinical skills, critical inquiry and thinking, in-depth, advanced and expert judgement, knowledge, skills, and abilities into providing advanced nursing care and leadership in the management of tangata whaiora within Te Uru Rauhī Mental Health and Addiction Service.
