Chef

Whenuapai Bakehouse & Cafe is looking for a qualified Chef to join our team.

• Hours: 30 - 40 hours per week

• Pay rate: $30 - $36 per hour

• Start time: from 5:00 am, including weekends and public holidays

Suitable candidates must have the following skills and attributes:

• A relevant diploma qualification or at least 3 years relevant work experience.

• Availability to start work at 5:00 am and work weekends and public holidays.

• Physical fit to undertake physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting and prolonged standing.

• The ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong multitasking, organisational and time-management skills.

• Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key responsibilities:

• Planning menus, developing dishes, and estimating costs 

• Ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels to ensure sufficient ingredients are available

• Preparing and cooking food in accordance with recipes, cooking methods and presentation standards.

• Monitoring the quality of food and portioning throughout preparation and presentation.

• Demonstrating cooking techniques and providing guidance to kitchen staff.

• Discussing food preparation, kitchen operation and any issues with management.

• Maintaining and enforcing food hygiene, health and safety standards.

• Training and supervising junior kitchen staff.

• Adjusting dishes to meet reasonable dietary requirements and customer needs.

• Safely storing, freezing and preserving food where required.

• Organising and coordinating kitchen activities to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
