Spice Mantra and Indian Hut offer authentic Indian cuisine with an emphasis on traditional flavours, quality ingredients and customer satisfaction. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Indian Chef to join our kitchen team and contribute to maintaining high culinary standards across both restaurants located in Indian Hut – 76 Main Street, Oxford, Waimakariri and Spice Mantra – 812 Main North Road, Belfast, Christchurch. Successful applicant will work under Indian hut & Spice Mantra as per the requirement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Ensure all menus are regularly updated, paying special attention to seasonal availability.

· Prepare and cook food to the highest company standards to satisfy customers' expectations.

· Plan menus, develop recipes and maintain consistent standards of food quality, taste and presentation.

· Oversee the preparation of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori items, breads, rice dishes and other menu offerings.

· Supervise, train and assist kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking techniques.

· Meet regularly with management and key kitchen staff to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.

· Maintain a clean, safe and tidy work environment at all times.

· Motivate and guide kitchen staff with creative flair and ideas.

· Manage kitchen operations, including stock ordering, checking invoices and conducting stocktakes.

· Monitor food costs, portion control and wastage to support efficient kitchen operations.

· Ensure compliance with food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.

· Perform other reasonable duties related to the position.

 

Skills and Requirements

· Previous relevant work experience of 2-3 years OR a relevant qualification such as cookery.

· Strong knowledge of Indian cuisine and traditional cooking methods.

· Well-developed team leadership skills.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· A planned and organised approach to work.

· Good organisational skills with a high level of food presentation.

· Ability to work independently and manage kitchen operations during busy periods.

· Willingness to work at either restaurant location as rostered.

· Availability to work weekends, late evenings and public holidays.

· Ability to pass reasonable pre-employment checks where required.

Pay Rate: NZD $28 to $35 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Hours: Minimum 30 hours to maximum 45 hours per week
Days of Work: Tuesday to Sunday, according to a rotating roster
