We are seeking a motivated Café Cook to join our dynamic team. This role is perfect for someone passionate about both
Western cooking and the exciting new addition of Chinese cuisine to our menu. The position offers opportunities for menu
development, hands-on cooking, and collaboration with a talented team. This is a full-time role, starting at 30 hours per week
with the potential for increased hours as we expand our offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
Menu Development and Innovation:
Contribute creative ideas for new dishes, ingredients, and cooking techniques to enhance the introduction of Chinese cuisine
as part of the upcoming menu expansion. Participate in developing innovative recipes, including desserts and baked goods,
to complement the newly introduced Chinese offerings.
Cooking, Baking, and Preparation:
Prepare and cook a variety of dishes with a strong focus on the newly introduced Chinese cuisine (including fried rice, stir-
fries, noodle bowls), as well as desserts and bakery items. Ensure all dishes and baked goods are prepared to high standards,
following established recipes and guidelines to promote the new menu items.
Training and Mentoring:
Assist and supervise general kitchen staff in learning and mastering new skills related to the preparation of Chinese cuisine,
desserts, and bakery items. Help improve workflow efficiency to support the integration of these new products into daily
operations.
Quality Control:
Monitor the quality and presentation of all food, particularly the newly introduced Chinese dishes, desserts, and baked
goods, to ensure every item meets customer expectations. Maintain consistency in taste, adherence to portion sizes, and
compliance with new recipe standards.
Inventory and Cost Management:
Manage kitchen inventory, minimize waste, and control food costs, especially concerning the new Chinese cuisine
ingredients and dessert-related supplies. Support management in streamlining kitchen operations to efficiently incorporate
these upcoming products, especially during peak hours.
Food Safety and Sanitation:
Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment by upholding food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring proper handling
of ingredients related to the newly introduced Chinese dishes and desserts. Ensure compliance with health and safety
regulations at all times.
Job pre-requisites:
Can work on the roster for seven days a week . Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
At least one year of experience working in a commercial kitchen is a must.
Proved knowledge of cooking Chinese cuisine, such as relevant work experience, on-the-job training, or occupational
credentials.
Must possess a keen eye for detail and a hard-working attitude.
Physically fit and able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Must be able to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods of time.
Must maintain personal cleanliness to ensure high standards of hygiene.
The successful candidate must pass a police check and drug test.
