We are hiring for DCsushi LTD, a modern Chinese-Japanese fusion restaurant located in the heart of Wellington. We focus on delivering high-quality, innovative Asian cuisine with an emphasis on authentic flavours and premium ingredients. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Chef to lead kitchen operations and bring creativity to our evolving menu.

Employment Type:               Full-time, Permanent

Days Required:                     Needs to be available from Monday to Saturday, between 9:00am and   9:00pm (rostered shifts)

                                               May need to work during weekends or public holidays; 

Hourly Rate:                          $32.00 - $35.00

Hours per Week:                   Guaranteed minimum 30 hours per week. Up to 50 hours per week.

 

Key Responsibilities include:   

• Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes from both Chinese and Japanese cuisines
• Creating and designing new fusion dishes and seasonal specials
• Controlling food quality, portioning, and presentation standards
• Supervising and training kitchen staff to ensure efficient service and consistency
• Managing general kitchen operations including rostering, hygiene, and food safety compliance
• Monitoring kitchen stock levels, placing orders, and managing inventory
• Costing dishes, managing budgets, and contributing to menu pricing
• Ensuring adherence to food control plans, health and safety procedures, and allergen management
• Collaborating with management to plan and update menus based on customer feedback and business goals
• Performing other kitchen duties as required to support smooth restaurant operations

 

Requirements for the applicants:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a chef, preferably in Asian cuisine (Chinese and/or Japanese)
• OR completion of a recognised culinary qualification or apprenticeship
• Ability to independently manage kitchen operations, including staff supervision and stock control
• Strong skills in Chinese/Japanese cooking techniques and flavour balancing
• Sound knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene regulations in New Zealand
• Strong communication, leadership, and time management skills
• Physically fit and capable of working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Ability to attend an onsite interview preferred
