We are looking for enthusiastic, passionate Chefs to join our team at Portofino Italian Restaurant, in Viaduct, Auckland Central. Portofino are proud to serve delicious Italian food, in a comfortable, home-like setting, using quality New Zealand and Italian produce.

We are looking for enthusiastic, passionate and experienced Chefs to join our team at Portofino Restaurant Viaduct, located in Viaduct, Auckland Central. 

The available Chef positions are full time (guarantee of 30 hours per week) and permanent. Hours of work will be rostered between 10am – 11pm Monday to Sunday including Public Holidays. The hourly wage is a minimum of $25/hour to a maximum of $32/hour.

Your duties will include:

  • Responsibility for the operation and organisation of the kitchen.
  • Assist the Directors/Management with menu planning as required. 
  • Ensure that recipes and proportions are strictly adhered to, to ensure consistency, quality and cost control.
  • Impart knowledge, skills and training to kitchen staff to ensure high standards.
  • Manage staff rosters in conjunction with the Directors/Management when required. 
  • Spot check dishes as they leave the kitchen for establishment quality, presentation and temperature. 
  • Follow set policies to maintain standards for food safety in all food preparation areas.
  • Follow set policies to maintain standards for health & safety at work in all food preparation areas.
  • Ensure all equipment and work environments are operational.
  • Inform the designated management if any hazards are identified that may affect work conditions.
  • Order and maintain inventory to ensure efficient operations.
  • Communicate with and support staff.
  • Uphold morale in the kitchen.
  • Ensure relationship between kitchen and front of house staff is of a high standard.
  • Any other duties Directors/Management may reasonably require.

Requirements for this role:

  • at least 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • familiarity and/or experience with European cuisines 
  • be able and willing to cook in a busy kitchen
  • have a positive can-do attitude and reliable
